History

Our History

Early on, our founders recognized the potential for Bitcoin and other digital innovations to transform the way people pay, save and transact value, and they understood the value of scale. This vision paved the way for the development of our digital mining company, now a recognized name in bitcoin and GPU hosting services.

Since then, Core Scientific mining has been scaling operations, becoming the first digital mining company in North America to achieve 100, 250, and 500 megawatts of operating capacity. We’ve built a team with extensive experience from the data center industry to scale our operations and deliver multiple forms of high-value compute efficiently.

  • 2017

    Core Scientific was founded. Purchased first data center.

  • 2018

    Opened Marble, NC and Dalton, GA data centers.

  • 2019

    Opened Calvert City, KY data center. Achieved 100 MW total operating capacity. Opened dedicated tier III GPU hosting data center.

  • 2021

    Opened Grand Forks, ND data center. Opened second Dalton, GA data center. Achieved 250 MW total operating capacity.

  • 2022

    Opened Denton, TX and Pecos, TX data centers. Achieved 500 MW total operating capacity. First to mine 50 Bitcoin in a single day.

  • 2023

    Introduced first bitcoin mining fleet management software capable of managing 1 million miners.

  • June 2024

    Contracted first of several HPC hosting contracts totaling 500 MW of critical IT load and representing potential total revenue of more than $ 8 billion.

  • July 2024

    Block announced contract to provide up to 15 EH/s of its new 3 nanometer ASIC chip to Core Scientific.
